Soft-Start Saves Dollars

Touch&Glow® offers an exclusive "Soft-Start" feature that saves money by making your bulbs last longer. The bulb life is increased significantly, as the soft-start feature allows the electric current to warm up the bulb filament gradually in several steps. The majority of bulbs fail mainly due to the sudden inrush of current to a cold bulb filament. Gradual "Soft-Start" is quick and not noticeable to the human eye for smaller size bulbs. It can be slightly noticeable for a large 300W bulb. "Soft-Start" feature is only offered by Touch&Glow® for Models M-101, M-102, X-786, X-787, H-786B, & H-787B and is not available from any other touch control manufacturer in the world.

Safety 'Dim Mode'

As a safety feature for homeowners, some of our plug-in touch controls are exclusively designed to help prevent temporary electrical overloads. Our plug-in touch controls are designed with built-in "Automatic Current Limit Safety Circuit". If significantly larger wattage bulbs (or electrical load) than labeled-capacity are temporarily used, then the lamp would be locked and remain in low brightness level 'Dim Mode' ... or may flicker, until the excessive wattage load is reduced below the rated capacity. Users MUST remove the excess wattage promptly. The unit will work properly at that time. This home safety overload protection feature is only offered by Touch&Glow® for Models M-101, M-102, X-786, X-787, H-786B, & H-787B and is not available from any other touch control manufacturer in the world.

False Activations

Power fluctuations, brown-outs, power-spikes, electronic cross-talk, and lightning storms may cause a 'false activation' of the touch control lamp by turning it on or off. In order to respond to a human touch of a finger, control has to be inherently a sensitive device. Most ordinary power lines are electrically noisy and fluctuate during a 24-hrs period. Generally, a large and abrupt voltage fluctuation has the same effect on touch control as a human touch. Air conditioners, heater or large appliances, when starting or stopping, create a very large fluctuation. Therefore, occasionally, the touch unit may be activated due to a big voltage fluctuation. Many of these electrical fluctuations are not noticeable to the human eye. When a false activation happens, simply just touch the lamp to turn it off or on. If the problem persists, plug the unit away, in another electrical outlet or in another room or floor of the house.

Save Money, Use Regular 1-Way Bulbs

Touch & Glow Dimmer Controls are designed to provide 3-way electronic light dimming by using an ordinary 1-way bulb. Amazingly our electronic circuit converts ordinary 1-way bulbs into 3-way. You never need to buy expensive 3-way bulbs again. Generally, 3-way bulbs cost up to 3 times more than a 1-way bulb. Besides, you will notice that your bulbs will last longer, saving you money, time, and the headache of constantly replacing fused bulbs.

Unit Is Warm To Touch

It is normal for the unit to be warm to touch when in use for a while. If the unit gets hot to touch, for safety, you need to disconnect and remove it immediately. See the label placed on the product for maximum possible wattage rating. As it is unsafe to use hot control and heat can result in permanent damage to your unit.

Not OK To Ground Touch Control Lamps

Touch electronic controls detect the human touch and respond to it. A touch lamp may not work correctly with the human touch if it is grounded electrically. Grounding defeats the technique of touch control. Occasionally a floor lamp placed on a concrete floor or wall sconces mounted to a certain type wall, may not respond to touch. In that case, place a cardboard or insulation material under the touch surface and the grounding surface to make use of the touch control.

Using Screw-In Socket Photo-Sensor

For outdoor applications, our screw-in socket controls must not be directly exposed to the elements. Use our dusk-to-dawn controls inside a UL-Listed rain-tight enclosure. Glass enclosure of light fixture can be open at the bottom and still be rain-tight. Photo-controls extend bulb life significantly and increase energy savings by reducing the operating time of the light fixture. It is normal for a photocell unit to decrease light output by up to 20%. Use a higher wattage bulb if more brightness is desired. Always place photo-sensor facing towards natural sunlight. Inside a sunny room, place it within 3-feet from a window. If lamp flickers, remove lampshade and make sure that photocell is not receiving reflected or artificial light. Artificial or reflected lights occasionally create flickering of the bulb. To lessen the flicker, you can rotate unit 1/4 turn plus or minus inside the outdoor or indoor lamp socket to face towards sunlight.

Light Bulb Is Dim Or Light Output Is Reduced

The unit Is seeing artificial or reflected light. To avoid artificial light re-orientate the nozzle in another direction by turning +/- 1/4 of turn inside the socket. For reflected light, wrap black electrical tape around the nozzle to form a cone-shaped extended nozzle thereby reducing the opening and decreasing sensitivity. To test unit, place black electrical tape completely in front of the nozzle, the bulb should come to full brightness. Make sure the fixture has clear or translucent glass that light can permeate through.

Using Plug-In Automatic Photo-Sensor

Place photo-sensor facing natural sunlight, within 3-feet from a window. Make sure that the photocell is not receiving reflected or artificial light. For Model S-711, plug-in light control, if direct sunlight is not available at the desired wall outlet, use an extension cord to make unit face natural sunlight. Make sure to use the correct type SPT-2 UL marked extension cord. It is normal for the bulb, using a photocell, to show reduced brightness. Use a higher size bulb for desired brightness. Photocells extend bulb life and increase energy savings. There are no complex timers to set and no daylight savings adjustments to make.

Wireless Remote Light Controls

Our Wireless remote controls work excellently using the 'Radio Frequency' (RF) within a specified range. Thick brick walls, metal and steel structures absorb RF signal. Therefore, the remote control range is sometimes reduced due to the surrounding metallic structure or thick brick walls. RF Wireless signal travels through walls, around corners, and up/down floors of the home. To maximize the range, do not locate the RF receiver or transmitter near metal objects, office file drawers, metal columns, beams, or structures.
